Commonly considered one of the loveliest hobbies, gardening can be done anywhere and at anytime of the year despite many general misconceptions. General gardening outdoors can be quite relaxing and creative.

While simple gardens offer the hobby enthusiast a beautiful distraction in their own yards, some competitive hobbyists complete entire English or French gardens using intricate designs and specific plant life. Using pictures of fine gardens from all over the world as a reference, these experienced garden hobbyists spend their free time researching the growth and care of certain exotic plants. They may hire professional landscapers who may advise them on the placement of their plant life as well as any structural pieces like water falls or fountains for decoration.

Some garden hobbyists prefer to garden inside the comfort of their own homes. Either as a preference or due to lack of space, these terrarium gardeners spend their time cultivating their hobby as they grow exotics such as orchids and bonsai trees. Kept in small containers called terrariums, these hobbyists create interesting eco-systems within a controlled environment. Other forms of gardening for a hobby involve creating water features. Water features like a pond may involve the growth of water plants as well as fish. Garden lovers find this hobby to be among the most interesting.
